Routine Dental Treatments

Teeth Cleaning (Scaling and polishing)

It is a procedure that removes dental plaque, tartar and extrinsic stains that are present on the outer surface of the teeth.

It removes the hard tartar on your teeth, which cannot be removed by simply brushing your teeth. Scaling and polishing cleans your teeth, preventing and controlling the severity of gum diseases. Regular scaling and polishing helps to keep your teeth and gums healthy.

Dental Fillings

A dental filling is a way to restore a tooth damaged by decay back to its normal function and shape.

Root Canal Treatment

A root canal is a treatment used to repair and save a tooth that is badly decayed or becomes infected.

During a root canal procedure, the nerve and pulp are removed and the inside of the tooth is cleaned and sealed. Without treatment, the tissue surrounding the tooth will become infected and abscesses may form.

Bridges & Crowns

Unlike removable Prosthesis such as dentures, which you can take out and clean daily, crowns and bridges are cemented onto existing teeth or implants, and can only be removed by a dentist.

Crowns are used most commonly to entirely cover or “cap” a damaged tooth or cover an implant. Bridges are commonly used to cover a space if you’re missing one or more teeth. They are cemented to natural teeth or implants surrounding the space where the tooth once stood.

Benefits of Bridges & Crowns

In addition to strengthening a damaged tooth, bridges and crowns can be used to improve a tooth’s appearance, shape, alignment and dental occlusion (bite). Gaps left by missing teeth can cause the remaining teeth to shift, which can result in a bad bite. Bridges and crowns help prevent this from happening.

Indications Of Crowns & Bridges:

  • Replace a large filling when there isn’t enough tooth remaining.
  • Protect a weak tooth from fracturing.
  • Restore a fractured tooth.
  • To replace a missing tooth/teeth.
  • Cover a dental implant.
  • Cover a discoloured or malformed tooth.
  • Cover a tooth that has had root canal treatment.

Dentures

A denture is a removable replacement for missing teeth and surrounding tissues.

Two types of dentures are available — complete and partial dentures. Complete dentures are used when all the teeth are missing, while partial dentures are used when some natural teeth remain.

Tooth Extractions (including wisdom tooth extractions)

A dental extraction (also referred to as tooth extraction, or informally, tooth pulling) is the removal of teeth from the dental alveolus (socket) in the alveolar bone.

If a tooth has been broken or damaged by decay, a dentist will try to fix it with a filling, crown or other dental treatment. But when there’s too much damage for the tooth to be repaired, the tooth may need to removed.

Tooth Removal Procedures

There are two types of extractions:

  • A simple extraction – this procedure is on a tooth that can be seen in the mouth. For a simple extraction, the dentist loosens the tooth with an instrument called an elevator. Then the dentist uses forceps to remove the tooth.
  • A surgical extraction – this is a more complex procedure, which is used if a tooth may have broken off at the gum line or has not erupted in the mouth. The oral surgeon will make a small incision into your gum to surgically remove the broken tooth or impacted wisdom tooth.
